Your Mental Health. 23Your Mental Health. We hear a lot about it, but mental health affects us all from time to time, so it’s important that we talk about it, understand what it means, and know how we can take care of it. Mental health problems can appear in many different forms, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, self-harm and anger issues. The dark days can come for any number of reasons, sometimes they can be associated with trauma, or stress, lack of sleep or proper food, loneliness, sometimes they come for no reason at all that we can find. Sometimes you can deal with them just by sharing your feelings with someone you trust and making small changes to your life. Sometimes it takes a little more, such as a visit to your GP, a period of medication, or counselling.Remember, the first step is always to speak up. You are not alone.Suggestion: Why not try keeping a mood diary. Record how you feel during the day or week and try to see if they coincide with days when you didn’t get enough sleep, or when you feel under pressure at school etc?
